It has an area of 10,485 km² and a population of 11,370,000 as of the 2011
timber and charcoal. The main benefits of sal is that it can absorb carbon more than any other native trees, so it helps mitigate the severe pollution of Dhaka city. The only other elevated tract in the district is on the northern border
