LOVING WHAT YOU DO, A GUARANTEE OF SUCCESS ??? DISCUSSION.

in #discussion6 years ago

Steven Paul Jobs was an American entrepreneur, business magnate, inventor, and industrial designer. He was the chairman, chief executive officer, and a co-founder of Apple Inc. He has to his credit, lots of motivational, inspirational and success quotations. He once said:

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.

Before I delve into the above quote, let me acknowledge that people work for many different reasons other than their mere love for the job. Some times, circumstances don't allow us to do what we want. People need to be able to make a living from what they do, cater for their families and possibly save for the future. Most of the time, it's not easy to achieve this by just doing what you love, instead, you will have to do what is on demand. A lot of us find our selves doing things either because of the job security it provides us or because of the prestige and respect the job brings.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with Steve Jobs when he says that we should all strive to do a job we love. Once you have found the right job, it becomes easier to have a good time and to make some money while doing this. Confucius once said that if you choose a job you love, you will never have to work a day in your life. It's like building a legacy out of a hobby. It usually doesn't matter what you do, if you do it well enough, then you my friend, can make more money being the best shoe maker than someone who probably owns a bank.

Now What I want fellow steemians to help me discuss are these two questions:

  • What do you do if you are very good at a job you don't actually like?
  • What do you do if you like a job you are not actually good at?

Let me know what you think in the comment section.

Circumstances will never be in favour. It's always the excuse that we make in life to get away with what we aren't able to do just because we want to blame someone or something else for our failures in life.

What do you do if you are very good at a job you don't actually like?
The very first thing is that if I am good at my current job, I must have been doing it out of love either for my job or for the love of my people whose lives are dependent on what the job is paying/offering. It's often said that we tend to lose our interest and liking towards something which becomes monotonous in ife which in turn makes us feel that we are not growing. And this can only be felt by someone who is growth oriented. So, if the person is growth oriented and isn't happy with the job, then it's always better to start a business. Becoming the best in it will just be a matter of time then which will, of course, come with experience.
Now, when it comes to the second part which is if I am doing it for the people who are dependent on what the job is offering, either I will continue doing it or I will figure out something else while working on it and once I find something better, I will leave the current job and move to the second. It will either give me job satisfaction to an extent which is more than the previous one or will be paying better at least which will relieve a bit of my stress of taking care of people dependent on me and I will eventually become happier.

What do you do if you like a job you are not actually good at?
I would like the job for one of the following reasons:

  1. The people I am working with are nice to me and are adding value to my life
  2. I am getting paid more than I deserve
  3. I am a coffee addict and they really serve great coffee :)
Well to be honest, If I like a job which I am not good at, I will eventually become good because either the people working there are good enough and I can learn from them, or the well paid job will strike my self-esteem to learn more and work more which will again make me improve myself over time.

Wooow, that is a very detailed and interesting contribution. It is true that if you really like something, with the right efforts, you could get good at it. I also agree that when you are caught up in a job u don't really like, you should keep working while looking out for better and more suitable opportunities.
