What will the Future Be Like?
Transportation
.........................................................................................................................................................
It won’t be like it is today. My guess is that it will be ORGANIC, in a way that you never thought of.
Consider a body, be it human or otherwise. It is full of tubes(blood vessels, lymphic system, intestines) and wires(nerves). Food, Oxygen, Water, Wastes, Healing...all are transported thru tubes. (it’s actually MUCH more complex than that..but let’s keep it simple for the sake of explanation). Nerves communicate. (not simple either)
Why should our civilization be any different?
You might say that’s the way it is right now? In a way you would be correct....except for one thing. Three dimensional. Our civilization is fundamentally 2D.
Roads are flat.
Boats travel on flat water (they hope).
The only part of our transportation system that is not 2D is airplanes,
and except for helicopters the places that they land and take off from is flat.
Lookit a map or check it out yourself. Except for a few bridges, such as ‘interchanges, roads are flat.
2D has a LOT of built in problems. To get where you want to, or get your ‘stuff’ where you want it to be usually requires shifting modes. If you want to travel long distance you might have to take a car (or bus) to the airport.
Then fly from one airport to another, possibly switch planes,
then take a car (or bus or train) to get to your final destination.
Freight is much the same. It arrives at the port by boat.
The containers are offloaded to trucks.
or train
The trucks take the containers to a distribution center.
More trucks take them to a store.
You have to go to the store to buy it in your car or by bus.

Home delivery has changed that just a bit.
Drones might change it a little bit more.
Just a little bit.
Nature is nothing like that. Our body is 3D
What ever needs to go from point A to point B...just goes there. No mode shift in between and they are ALL one way. (no head on collisions are possible)
And so it shall be with our transportation system.
Kind of like hyper loops. Compare them to capillaries.
end of part one
stay tuned for
Hyperloop, supercool flying suits, portals, who knows. it certainly would be extraordinary
hyperloops
and loops
are being built
NOW.
Yeah...Elon on the job. Am just excited for it
Considering your vision, I would think about future earth as a place with really high buildings interconnected with some sort of horizontal elevators
nope.
stay tuned for future episodes in which I speculate as to why I think you have exactly opposite.
This system of passenger transport, I imagine is inspired a little in the process of sending objects by pneumatic tubes, as is done in some commercial establishments ... Now build that special environment inside the tube that reduces friction and points towards the emptiness, for the magnitude of the work to be executed, should not be an easy task, but of course not impossible and for what I read there are already some prototypes under construction. What a concern for the Socialists!
I've made several posts about the hyperloop and the loop lately.
Several are under construction as we speak.
Very interesting topic because of the impact it will have on the dynamics of the human being. I wil Be attentive to your publications ... Although we should also be attentive to the development of flying taxis, which might be the counterpart of the hyperloop and the loop ...?
Musk commented on flying vehicles. Although they MIGHT be technologically possible..they won't be socially feasable.
Have you ever tried to talk when a helicopter is flying by?
Have you ever played with a remote control drone?
There is NO WAY to make those things quite.
Now imagine if everyone had a flying car.
Also...with all those spinning props in the air...it's only a matter of time before one comes loose...
oh wait...an airplane just had that happen a week or so ago. Killed a passenger didn't it when a turbine blade came loose?
Yes, all this is true but I would not rule out the development of a very limited and exclusive market that has access to this type of vehicle in the future.
I wonder how long people will actually want to go anywhere, look at your other chart of how much time people spend at home, with drone delivery there is less and less reason to leave, with 3d telepresence you could experience somewhere else from the comfort of your own home. I read one dystopian novel where that was essentially what happened, they had advanced airships but they were falling into disrepair because people seldom actually traveled. Everyone in that novel spent all day arguing about shit online which was interesting because it was written well before the advent of the internet, I can't remember what it was called though.
dystopian novel
why would it be dystopian?
I go for weeks without leaving the apartment.
there's nothing wrong with me...
with me..
with me..
with me...
That's gonna be the best thing ever!!!!
Shit....get there in a snap.
IF..
you decide to leave home
really like this post........ thanks for sharing your thoughts with us all
nah , new technologies create only more trouble and zombies . nothing good comes from that crap
I'm unsurprised that a socialist would say that.
yeah, please do not compare me to your 'socialists' . I find them disgusting as much as you do
I can understand why you wouldn't want to be compared to them.
Perhaps I should have used the term 'Luddite'?
not entirely against new things but some new technologies are quite scary .
I understand.
If man had been meant to go fast.
he would have been given four legs.
Those horses and horseless carriages are SCARY.
back then nobody could force you to ride horseless carriage ,
today's new toys could be used for very sinister things without your permit
today's new toys could be used for very sinister things without your permit

back then nobody could force you to ride horseless carriage,

or..for the less technologically advanced.
