Deepest hand dug well
in the world
.............................................................................................................................................................................
- Sunday 16th March 1862, the bricklayer noticed that the thin crust of earth he was standing on was being slowly pushed upwards like a giant piston. Scrambling up the numerous ladders to each winchman's platform, he and the others quickly vacated the shaft. It must have been a difficult task for the well had now been sunk to such an amazing depth their successful exit took some 45 minutes. Suddenly with a roar, the piston head crumbled and tools, buckets and ladders flooded up the shaft. Water had at last been found. It had taken over 4 years backbreaking work for a labour force which included many Brighton paupers, to hand dig a shaft some 1285 feet deep (850 of which were below sea level) without the aid of machines.
Digging for water? That’s an insane adventure, crazy they went so deep, glad there we no casualties.
er...until relatively recently ALL wells were hand dug...like..I mean..for thousands of centuries..
casualties?
that's the breaks of the game.
risky business being alive...there ARE no survivors..
True no one lives forever
My dad was a hole digger except that he used a crane. He dug a hole so large in 20 years that they made it into a park with three lakes in it. Unfortunately it is always in the news because some little kid or kids drown there every summer.
We can do incredible things when we put our minds to work. Go tell twenty young people you need a 10 foot deep hole dug. Here are some questions that might come up.
Wow, that is a helluva lot of buckets of dirt. Talk about tenacity!
Thar she blows...
do not forget visit also have me@akmaladila

Wooh! quite a story! let's continue digging then :-D
Best wishes for us
I love the science of this technology
