Do You Check Your Following For Steemit Lice?
Sadly Steemit Lice can be fatal. I do the best I can to check the people that I’m following every so often for the stuff. It has a lot of nasty symptoms to it, and it can result in sudden death of the account never being logged into again.
While certain phases of Steemit Lice can be cured; sadly, some just can’t be. You have to cut your loss sometimes and hope not to be infected by the very contagious lice they have contracted.
So What Is Steemit Lice?
It can range from loneliness and unanswered questions to flat-out spam or plagiarism. The direct result is causing people to give up on Steemit and never log back in again.
While some of these things can be cured with a simple conversion and support, others require a more aggrieve approach such as downvoting or even unfollowing or muting.
Serious Symptoms
In these most severe cases sometimes talking with the person to try and help de-lice them is not enough. Isolation and not supporting them in any way with follows and upvotes may be their only hope to coming to the understanding they have been infected and are spreading it around steemit.
Many infected by it spam hundreds of resteems a day clogging up your feed from finding relative things to you. This makes it impossible to find anything they have written recently. In fact, most of them have stopped caring to write anymore.
Others have taken fake it to you makes it to a whole new level. They plagiarize to their heart's content and have not done anything writing-related other than add in the tags to what they post. They spend more time googling content to copy/paste then writing their own.
Copy and paste spammers. Sadly some of us have become greatly blinded by the Steemit Lice that all they are capable of doing is spamming comment sections with the same message over and over again as if calling out for help!
Minor Symptoms
These I often refer to as Steemit Blues Lice. People struggling but being respectful to their fellow steemain. Often times they are just looking for some minor help and they are unsure how to get it. Other times they pour their hearts into something and even though they have thousands of people following them no one seems to care anymore.
You cure Steemit Blues Lice by just checking in on the people you choose to follow from time to time. Leaving a thoughtful comment, upvote, a resteem. Steemit can be such a wonderful loving place; but sadly, many log out after a long night feeling left out. They don’t know they should just reach out of their bubbles and comment on other people’s blogs as well.
Once in a while, I find one of the people I’m following asks a general Steemit question or some basic help about something. Most of the time these go unanswered. The unanswered basic question can show people who are following them don’t even care enough to spend 30 secs of their time with a simple question. This can cause people over time to question why they are even here anymore and leave.
With how fast Steemit moves it’s easy to get lost in the cracks. Even more so when everything these days seems to be written so well, thoughtful, and a lot of time must have been spent creating it. The people I follow are great; they sometimes don’t get much of anything even a comment on something. Which is why if I follow someone I do my best to support them with an upvote or a comment from time to time. I don’t always have the time and not everyone writs things I can even comment on which is why I love Steemit so much. Sometimes a simple interaction is all they need to keep going.
Sometimes weeks or even months go by when someone has stopped blogging. They show up once in a while to leave a comment a couple of times a week but that is it. They still seem to be around but their heart is no longer here. Sadly, no one even bothers to leave them a comment asking them “hey, how’s it going?” It’s easy to not notice someone you’re following has stopped blogging. I oftentimes find myself leaving something similar “hey, how’s it going” to the people I really enjoy reading their blogs but they have not been very active anymore. Sometimes they are just busy in life, other times, they have lost their way and reaching out makes they know someone cares enough for them to keep going on Steemit.
Be More Than Just A Number
I personally choose to not follow many people here on Steemit for a reason. I like to keep my feed manageable. I love to comment and the people I’m following are usually a great place for me to do just that.
I once in a while reach out to people I have the greatest respect for and ask them who they would recommend following. I have been here on Steemit for over 100 days and that's just not enough time. There are a lot of hidden and great gems out there and our elder steemains know who they are.
I find over time what keeps me active in places is not the place itself. It’s the friends I have made along the way around me that are still there. If you’re busy only making business acquiesces on Steemit over friends then you have no reason to stay if your posts are not earning the money you wanted them to.
People often go about managing the list of steemains they follow in many different ways. I find there are many factors that contribute to this. I am often wondering what peoples viewpoints are on the following as they tend to relate with how you interact with comments on your blog and when you’re out and about on other blogs.
- Should you make time for the people you follow or are they just a means to an end?
- Do you treat people on Steemit as a business acquaintance or a friend? A bit of both?
- Do you view your Steemit blog as a personal brand or as a place to make friends and have a good time or even network?

I've been trying to clean up the list of people I follow so my feed will be more manageable. Indeed, it's so easy to lose track of people on here... I want to only follow people because I like them -- not because I like their Steemit wallet.
I’ve taken an axe a couple times to mine. I’m at the point now where I really need go out and find more people to follow.
Let's me be very lazy and let me feed do all the work in showing what I find interesting to read and comment on!
I agree...finding more people is important. A huge part of the fun here is reading what is on other peoples' minds and sparking a discussion.
I think that staying engaged and really trying to connect with people is what keeps me on this platform. If I were in it for the money, I'd be long gone by now ;) It's not easy, but I try to get outside of my 'bubble' and meet or interact with people who I haven't interacted with before. Making new connections is one of the most rewarding parts of Steemit! Great ideas here @enjar! Keep on putting your thoughts into words we can all relate to!
@denmarkguy is a great person to check out if you have not already. He has created a great culture on his blogs of people commenting. I really enjoy interacting with him and others on his blogs.

Very good read and very useful advice. My trickiest problem is keeping up answering all comments on my posts.
Time balancing between posting, commenting on other posts, replying to comments on my posts - and the whole of the rest of my life - is still a work in progress.
Even with the wonders of a non-stop global community here I still haven't found a way to make my clock add on an extra 4 hours of steemit time every day.
Indeed, it’s not for everyone. Some have already put in the time to build up a community around themselves where they are in a phase of doing the best they can to keep up with things in their own corner of Steemit.
Finding the right balance between writing blogs, interacting with those who engage with them and then going out and interacting with others is a difficult task.
