The Russian people sucked after the socialist propaganda from 1917 to 1989 and I've read that many older people want it back. Some people are just perennially gullible. Some also actually fear freedom. Cradle to grave financial security is very desirable to some. They decide they would rather have low income with security rather than a potentially high income if they work for it and take risks with their money.
