Jesus is everything: You cannot be my disciple unless you give away everything you own. Luke 14:33

Lord Jesus in the gospel of John taught the conditions to follow him. And Jesus in this sense was clear, the spiritual doctrine of the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections, is not a simple worldly philosophy, but the transformation of men through the free grace of God.
And a demonstration of this truth are the stories in the Book of Acts, where the gifts of God were poured out to those who accepted the Lord Jesus with their hearts.
Jesus was very demanding with those who wanted to be his disciples, the gospels teach; because worldly concerns are very strong in man, and the temptation to make money with spirituality is very strong in people weak in faith. The love of riches is incompatible with the Kingdom of God, Jesus is everything for those who want to achieve the spiritual gift of eternal life (contemplative activity), and about this spiritual truth, Jesus taught: "No one is able to serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and he will love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and he will despise the other. You are not able to serve God and mammon" Matthew 6:24.
In the Kingdom of God, there are no grays or intermediate positions, we are friends or enemies of Jesus. When the rich young man approached Jesus asking him about the eternal life, what he wanted to do was try to get on good terms with God and the devil and he couldn't do it. The choice to follow Jesus is a fundamental choice, as was the choice made by the apostles Matthew, Luke, Peter, or John, that is why Jesus said: "You cannot be my disciple unless you give away everything you own" Luke 14:33.
