Paulo Italian Pizzeria - Koh Phayam: Profound place for an island
When you go to an island where there are no cars and many of the roads that you drive your rented scooter on are at least partially dirt, you don't really expect to encounter a pizzeria that is done is an exceptionally professional way including a massive menu with really any option you could imagine... at least I don't. This is where Paulo's is truly another hidden gem of this wonderful island.
The menu is filled with all the pizzas you could imagine (except pepperoni, sorry Americans!) and the food came out quickly and was served by very friendly staff. You can see the kitchen from the dining room and I always like when this happens because you know there are no tricks like microwaves involved in the cooking process.
We ordered the 8 inch pizzas because there were so many options we wanted to try. All of these options were 100 Baht each and they were ready super-fast.
didn't mean for this pic to feature bewbs, but it does that too
We also ordered a gnocchi 3 cheese and i was thinking as we ordered that there is no way this is going to be good out here in the middle of nowhere. Boy was i wrong as it was astounding!
They have a comfortable dining area that is completely covered (trust me, this is important in the tropics) with plenty of fans and light music playing at just the right volume. They wont win any awards for their plastic furniture anytime soon but really, it gets the job done.
This might be some of the best pizza I have had anywhere in Thailand and this is shocking considering how much extra work must going into the business acquiring their supplies in the middle of an island that is 30 minutes from the coast on a speedboat.
A truly remarkable experience, Paulo's Italian Pizzeria is a "must go" location on this island for all visitors.
It all looks good and having an open plan kitchen does settle the nerves. A wood oven is a must for the proper pizza flavor and hate the roller pizza ovens on a conveyor belt. I could eat that every other day along with the cocktails daily.
I was saying in my other comment a few minutes ago that I love wooden furniture and I am wondering what humidity does to it and here it is your second post with plastic furniture.
I hate plastic furniture, it gives you the feeling you're not respected because the owners care more about the profit than about your needs but there might be a good reason for that. At a place like that it migh be way easier to clean plastic than wood. However, I would still prefer wood.
Anyway, for some delicious, original Italian food I would look past of this :) Good food always comes first!
there are certain types of very heavy wood, normally teak that the insects and humidity don't stand a chance against. The downside is that they are extremely heavy.
Almost all typical western woods get annihilated over here though. Plastic furniture sucks, this is true, but in an environment like Thailand, it is hard to argue with the virtue of it from a cost perspective.
I agree, that's why we have to look past of plastic furniture.
Thank you for sharing your valuable experiance. I like these writings. Informations about a new place is very valuable for tourists.

You convinced me :D
Hello, @gooddream. We must always be thankful to be able to find a place to eat pizzas. This review I like, looks broad, fresh and if the service is good and the pizzas delicious we have not won the lottery.
I think the plastic furniture could be overcome with the good attention of the staff place.
I love reading your publications of food recommendations and places to eat, I think we share tastes especially when it comes to fast food hahaha. A hug.
That does look like a really good pizza. I like that it is square or rectangle. If it were a little thicker it might be considered Detroit style. It looks like they have a nice pizza oven so that would have told me right away the pies were going to be good. The gnocchi looks pretty amazing too. I am glad you found this gem even if it is a ways away from where you actually live.
