VRoid - Mobile App

in #digitalart5 years ago

I just discovered this program and app yesterday, as I was searching in the app store for something to quench my boredom in my lack of laptop.

Brought to us by Pixiv, VRoid is open source program that allows you to make your own customizable 3D characters. It also counts with a mobile app, which is the one I’ll be talking today.

If you’re a 3D enthusiast, and especially an anime enthusiast, you should try VRoid. It’s very intuitive and you don’t need previous knowledge on modeling and rigging to create your own character. Another pro is that they don’t claim ownership for any of the models made with VRoid, so you’re free to use them as you please. VRoid also allows you to export and import your model to others 3D programs, such as Blender, Unity, MDD and more.

The major downside would be the barrier language. The download page is in Japanese, though you can get easily around that with a translator. Thankfully, the actual program currently counts with two idiom versions: English and Japanese. The Mobile App is in Japanese only but, once again, its interface is very intuitive and I got the hang of it in less than half an hour.

I started off with a model based in an OC of mine, the mobile app doesn’t has many options for hairstyles and clothes for the characters to wear and they're not customizables (unlike the desk program, in which you can edit or even create both your own hairstyle and clothes).

This her, her name is Jojo. She practices boxing but that doesn’t make her any less feminine. The hairstyle isn’t quite right and I didn’t find a combination of clothes that reflected her style, so I had to go whit these two combinations.

This is another model I made yesterday, her name is Beatrice. Once again, the hairstyle isn’t quite right, but is close enough.

The app comes with three default backgrounds if you want to take photos of your model, two of which are taken for the iconic anime film: Summer Wars. There's a set of both dynamic and static poses available for your character.

Finally. The last one of the characters I recreated yesterday is Michiru, (her dad is Japanese but her family is mostly Italian, so her name was a compromise). She was fun to bring to live as her lively and childish personality clashes with her ladylike appearance.

Now you know, if you're bored or just want to create some waifus (or husbandos, you can do male models as well) relatively quick and without going mad, try Vroid.
