What Does an Egg Fast Really Do?
Is There Any Magic to a Three-Day Egg Fast?
First, what the heck is an egg fast? An egg fast isn't actually a fast. You are actually supposed to eat quite a bit to keep yourself satiated and ensure you're getting plenty of fat and protein to fuel your body. You're just restricted in what you can eat. You are supposed to consume a daily diet of at least six to eight eggs to start with. You can also use healthy fat like butter and olive oil for cooking.
Depending upon the egg fast diet plan, you can also add cheese, non-starchy veggies, low-carb berries and even low-calorie jello and a splash of whipped cream. Some people are more or less strict about this, and you can come up with a plan that works for you. You can actually find quite a few recipes besides basic cheese and spinach omelettes that work on an egg fast diet. If you're not into cooking, go ahead and scramble up some eggs and eat them with a salad.
So, does an egg fast actually help you lose weight? I imagine that it works in the same way that most low-carb diets work. It just removes a lot of choices and guesswork, so you are more likely to stick to the plan. This is not meant to be any sort of lifetime eating plan. In fact, most people who advocate egg fasts just tell dieters to stick to it for three or four days and maybe, a week at the most.
These are my results from a three-day egg fast:

Anyway, my conclusion at the end is that it did help me drop a bit of weight. More important, it helped me reset my appetite and get rid of cravings. On the first day, I ate a lot more than I did by the third day. Maybe I had just had enough eggs, but I didn't feel so hungry. My conclusion is that the "magic" to an egg fast is that it is helpful as a tool to help reset your appetite.
Has anybody else tried a short egg fast as a way to jumpstart a diet or break a weight-loss plateau?
