Gold and precious metals come from all over space and the ecosystem

Nature magazine has published a study by researchers from the University of Bristol (United Kingdom), which states that gold and other precious metals found in the crust of our planet are the result of an asteroid bombardment produced 200 million years after Earth formation.

The authors reached this conclusion after comparing the composition of rocks from Greenland almost 4,000 million years old with modern samples. These very primitive rocks are a unique opportunity to discover the composition of the Earth shortly after the formation of the nucleus and before the bombing of meteorites.

Professor Matthias Willbold and his colleagues measured the tungsten isotopes of the rocks and found that the composition of the earth's mantle underwent a change 3.9 billion years ago, with the bombardment of meteors. This happened about 650 million years after the formation of the Solar System. According to Willbold, being hit by this asteroid bombardment, most of the precious metals on which our economies are based came to Earth.
