Jonathan's Example

I met one time a worker in the harvest for the Lord
A young and true ambassador who could but ill afford
The work that he was called to do and do he did indeed
Believing God would always meet most faithfully his need

He started every morning every day upon his knees
Pursuing with his selfless heart that thing he knew would please
His Father up in heaven Whom had given him His call
To reach the world beyond him with the greatest Gift of all

The Gift of our salvation through our Lord's beloved Son
A work that He had started back before this world'd begun
When faced with Controversy by the angels He had made
He gave by Word the promise that by Him the Price He'd pay

For every soul that loved Him that would turn away from sin
As in His perfect knowledge He could see the fall of men
And knowing even though we would in blindness walk away
There was no other path than that He must walk anyway

For more than saving sinners with the Greatest Gift of all
He also saved the angels who had once chosen to fall
Securing them forever through the one thing He would do
His giving all in sacrifice to be like me and you

And then from death to living before all creation's eyes
He would forever bear the marks of His great Sacrifice
An evidence of victory for all the worlds to see
How great is His amazing grace that saved humanity

And moves the hearts like Jonathan's and Mary's Paul's and those
Who see the past and all God's done in saving those who chose
To lift their cross and follow Him in giving everything
To win souls for His Kingdom that He's promised soon to bring

To light through love and holiness reflected in the ones
Who turned away from worldliness to be just like the Son
In seeking souls in darkness to reveal the Light of Day
Through works of love and righteousness that will not pass away

But will remain as evidence for all the worlds to see
The Truth that is in Jesus Christ Who died for you and me
And lives in all who follow His Example that He gives
Through those who spread His precious Word wherein His Spirit lives
