How to search for text inside a directory
Github's
search is pretty cool but it's not really savvy to searching actual code - it ignores quotes, for example.
But if you already have the source on your computer, and you are running Linux, pictured above you can see the tool gnome-search-tool
, and I am looking for a specific function name relevant to the project I am working on, and search any big pile of text files you have somewhere.
Of course this is most relevant for people like me, reading source to make a translation into another language or to find exactly how a specific function is implemented in some project.

We can't code here! This is Whale country!

If you're on Linux, why not just grep?
I just want to find the file so I can browse it and figure it out.
