Navigating in the Finnish archipelago
I hope you all had a great weekend. Here is my Sunday post in English and in German.
The Turku archipelago in Finland holds over 20.000 islands with incomparable beauty.
Navigating in there requires extra attention but since my first job was on a small cargo vessel with a shallow draft, we were able to explore the islands and the waters. We could go to small harbors in the archipelago and take the island route for shortcuts or for shelter. On a calm summer day, the sea would make a mirror reflecting the islands, many bird species gather there since the islands are very low populated and if you were lucky enough, you could run into curious seals who would bounce their head out of the water just to greet you.
Its winter time. The upcoming posts will contain icing on ships and situations we struggled with icing conditions.

Das Turku Archipel in Finnland beherbergt über 20000 inseln.
Mit unserem kleinen Frachtschiff mit geringen Tiefgang konnten wir auch zu kleinen häfenarchipels ansteuern ,das erforderte besondere Aufmerksamkeit beim navigieren. An sommerlichen ruhigen tagen widerspiegelt das Meer die inseln. Mit ein bisschen Glück kann man neugierige robben sehen die mit Kopfstoß aus dem Wasser begrüßen.
