When people think of southern Italy, they think of the islands Sicily and Sardinia. But most people never heard someting of the region, called "Calabria"..It's a little further north and it is a dreamlike piece of earth! Crystal clear water combined with Italian flair. I went to Calabria a few weeks ago and travelled along the coast.

Tropea

Tropea ist eine wunderschöne, urige Stadt in Kalabrien mit traditionellen Handwerksläden und kleinen Modeboutiquen. Von dort aus gelangt man über einen steilen Treppenweg hinab zum wunderschönen Strand von Tropea.
Weiße Sandstrände, klares Wasser, tolle Salat- und Weinbars. Wer einen Strand sucht, der typisch italienisch ist, ist in Tropea richtig!Hier findest du Melonenverkäufer und Locals auf gestreiften Liegestühlen. Am Abend kann man vom hoch gelegenen Tropea den Sonnenuntergang genießen!

Tropea is a beautiful small town in Calabria with traditional craft shops and small fashion boutiques. From there you can reach the beautiful beach of Tropea via a steep staircase.
White sandy beaches, clear water, great salad- and wine bars. If you are looking for a beach that is typical for Italy, you should go there. At Tropea Beach you will find melon sellers and locals on striped deckchairs. Don't miss the sunset! It's breath taking!

Groticelle Capo Vaticano

Am Strand Groticelle am Capo Vaticano findet man jenseits von Massentourismus diese traumhafte Bucht. Kristallklares Wasser, feinen Sandtrand und viele Locals und Familien! Perfekt zum Schnorcheln, chillen und einen Tag in geselliger Runde.
Zudem gibt es eine Strandbar mit den besten Mojitos der Region!

On the beach Groticelle at the Capo Vaticano you will find this fantastic bay beyond mass tourism. Crystal clear water, fine sandy beach and many locals and families! Perfect for snorkelling, chilling and a day in a sociable round.
There is also a beach bar with the best mojitos in the region!

Praia i Focu

Ein absoluter Traumstrand ist „Praia i Focu“. Ebenfalls am Capo Vaticano, 500 m unter dem Leuchtturm, befindet sich diese kleine abgelegene Bucht. Sie ist meist menschenleer und deshalb so traumhaft. Man fühlt sich wie auf einer einsamen Insel.
Feigenkakteen, Agaven und dunkle Steinfelsen machen die Bucht so paradiesisch und unberührt.
Praia i Focu ist nur mit dem Boot erreichbar.

An absolute dream beach is "Praia i Focu". Also at the Capo Vaticano, 500 m below the lighthouse, is this small secluded bay. It is mostly human-minded. You feel like you are on a deserted island.
Fig cacti, agaves and dark stone rocks are making the bay so blissful and untouched.

You can reach the bay by boat only.

Reggio di Calabria

Der mondäne Strand von Reggio di Calabria hebt sich deutlich von den anderen ab. Der goldene Sand wird von Palmen, die natürlichen Sonnenschutz bieten, geschmückt und das Meer ist tief dunkelblau. Geziert wird der Strand von einer wunderschönen Uferpromenade, an der man shoppen, joggen und flanieren kann.
Aber das Highlight des Strandes von Reggio di Calabria ist mit Abstand der Ausblick auf die Bucht und die Vulkangebirge Siziliens! Ein Highlight für jeden, der Lust auf Shoppen und Strand hat!

The muddy beach of Reggio di Calabria totally stands out from the others. The golden sand is decorated by palm trees that offer natural sun protection and the sea is deeply dark blue. There is a beautiful promenade where you can shop, jog and stroll. It's a nice place for shopping and relaxing.
But the highlight of the beach of Reggio di Calabria is the view at the bay and the volcanoes of Sicily!
