Hinter dieser Plattform steckt niemand geringeres als Tim Berners-Lee, der Erfinder des WWW. Der Direktor des W3C hat sich für dieses Projekt von all seinen sonstigen Verpflichtungen freigestellt, was wohl zeigen soll, wie wichtig es für ihn sein muss, dass seine Schöpfung erfolgreich starten wird.

Inwieweit "Solid" auch für solide steht, wird sich noch zeigen

"Solid" soll dieses neue Netzwerk heißen, und sich unter dem Dach der eigens für diesen Zweck gegründeten Firma "Inrupt" entfalten. Der Name des sozialen Netzwerks steht für "social linked data". Was sich von der Tatsache ableitet, dass es sich hierbei sowohl um eine Social Media Plattform als auch um einen Datenhoster handelt.

Der Unterschied zu den etablierten Anbietern auf diesem Gebiet besteht laut Tim Berners-Lee in einem ganz entscheidenden Punkt: Die Herrschaft über die Daten die auf die "Solid-Server" hochgeladenen werden, verbleibt beim Uploader.

Die Sache mit der späten Erkenntnis

Vielleicht wird es gerade durch die Hervorhebung dieser Tatsache, so manchem erst jetzt bewusst, dass er bei vielen anderen Diensten seine Rechte an den hochgeladenen Dateien - wenn auch nur teilweise - verlieren könnte.

Ich gehöre - wie ich hier gestehen muss - auch zu den Internetnutzern, die sich nicht alle (oder eher gar keine) AGBs bis zum bitteren Ende durchlesen. Dafür lade ich allerdings wichtige Dateien auch nur auf einen eigenen Host und gehöre ohnehin zu den Wenigen, die auf Facebook und Co. nicht anzutreffen sind.

Also manchmal sollte man eventuell doch einmal genauer hinsehen, wem man die Speicherung wichtiger Daten oder Dateien überlässt. Belangloses kann man sicherlich überall, wo es einem gefällt, ablegen. Wem das neue Geschäftsmodell zusagt, der hätte ja jetzt für "Wichtiges" einen vielleicht auch tatsächlich verlässlichen Partner gefunden.

So sometimes you might want to take a closer look at who you let store important data or files. You can certainly put irrelevant data wherever you like. Anyone who likes the new business model would have found a perhaps reliable partner for "important things".
