Bei einem Produkttest des "American Consumer Institute" - in dem insgesamt 186 WLAN-Router bekannter Hersteller unter die Lupe genommen wurden - kam es zu einem besorgniserregenden Ergebnis.

Das erschreckende an diesen Ergebnis war, dass es sich hierbei um bereits bekannte Sicherheitslücken handelte. Das Institut unterteilte die Lücken in zwei Kategorien, demnach handelte es sich bei 7 % um kritische und bei 21 % um hochriskante Schwachstellen.
Insgesamt wurden bei den 155 negativ aufgefallenen WLAN-Routern über 32.003 Sicherheitslücken gefunden, was pro Gerät immerhin eine Anzahl von 186 eventueller"Einfallstore" ausmacht.
Ein Hauptgrund für dieses eklatante Ergebnis soll - laut dem ACI - in der Tatsache begründet liegen, dass es sich äußerst schwierig gestaltet, bei diesen Geräten die Firmware zu aktualisieren, oftmals wird dafür zudem eine Registrierung erforderlich. Auch kommt es vor dass die Firmware-Aktualisierungen erst verspätet oder auch gar nicht an den Kunden gelangen.

A product test by the American Consumer Institute - in which a total of 186 WLAN routers from well-known manufacturers were scrutinized - came to a worrying result.
155 of the 186 routers examined had security deficiencies
The alarming thing about this result was that these were already known security vulnerabilities. The institute divided the gaps into two categories, according to which 7% were critical and 21% high-risk vulnerabilities.
A total of more than 32,003 security vulnerabilities were found in the 155 negatively noticed WLAN routers, which makes up a total of 186 possible "gateway gates" per device.
According to the ACI, one of the main reasons for this blatant result is said to be the fact that it is extremely difficult to update the firmware of these devices, often requiring registration. It also happens that the firmware updates are delayed or do not reach the customer at all.
