Today I invite you to the small Greek island of Kalymnos.
With the big ferry, there is also a small speedboat, we drove from Mastichari (Kos), to the port of Pothia on Kalymnos.

heute lade ich euch auf die kleine, griechische Insel Kalymnos ein.
Mit der großen Fähre, es gibt auch ein kleines Schnellboot, fuhren wir von Mastichari (Kos) aus, zum Hafen von Pothia auf Kalymnos.

Already on the way you have a nice view to the mountainous island and the main town Pothia. The entrance to the harbor is fantastic, the houses cling to the rock, as in an amphitheater.

Schon unterwegs hat man einen schönen Blick zur gebirgigen Insel und dem Hauptort Pothia. Die Einfahrt in den Hafen ist fantastisch, die Häuser schmiegen sich an den Fels, wie in einem Amphitheater.

We had our scooter with us and explored the whole island.
It is 21 km long and at the widest point 13 km, a total of 111 square kilometers. Population over 16,000, more than 90% live in Pothia, Chorio and Panormos.
From the second half of the 19th century until the early 1960s Kalymnos was the island of sponge divers and contributed to the prosperity of the inhabitants. Today there are only a few who leave their homeland in the spring to dive for sponges off the coast of North Africa. They often stay at sea for months before returning home. In autumn, the sponges are spread out to dry in Pothia.

Wir hatten unseren Scooter dabei und erkundeten die ganze Insel.
Sie ist 21 km lang und an der breitesten Stelle 13 km, insgesamt 111 Quadratkilometer. Einwohner über 16 000, mehr als 90 % leben in Pothia, Chorio und Panormos.
Von der 2. Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts bis in die frühen 1960er Jahre war Kalymnos die Insel der Schwammtaucher und trug damit zum Wohlstand der Einwohner bei. Heute gibt es nur noch wenige, die im Frühjahr ihre Heimat verlassen, um vor der Küste Nordafrikas nach Schwämmen zu tauchen. Sie bleiben oft monatelang auf See, ehe sie zurück kehren. Im Herbst werden die Schwämme zum Trocknen in Pothia ausgebreitet.

In Pothia we visited the sponge diver museum and a sponge factory, both highly recommended. Of course, we also bought sponges that are of high quality.
Kalymnos is a quaint, Greek islands. Since 1997, she has made a reputation among climbers, because she offers the best conditions for this sport.

Wir besuchten in Pothia das Schwammtaucher Museum und eine Schwammfabrik, beides sehr zu empfehlen. Natürlich kauften wir auch Schwämme, die von hoher Qualität sind.
Kalymnos ist eine urige, griechische Inseln. Seit 1997 hat sie sich, einen Ruf unter Climbern gemacht, denn sie bietet beste Voraussetzungen für diesen Sport.
