Part I of detailing to perfection 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera 3,2 Targa , One of 559 EVER produced from 1985 to 1989
This car is so special , by official records in 2016 only 200-250 has left in drive condition up to today.

And thing that makes this Carrera special is hidden under code or option 491. It was factory idea that they must have something in between "regular 911" and top model 911 Turbo . So what they done is , they installed some parts from 911 Turbo on base model . It was rear spoiler or air collector , gearbox ( G50 ) ,brakes , side skirt , some parts of suspension , they widened rear fenders and changed some other parts .

And some time ago i got opportunity to work on this car . I know owner from before , so he called me one day saying : come to my garage , check condition and give me the price ! Ok , i'm coming tomorrow ! . Bang .
I have come day after and went in to garage , checked condition of paint , measured how tick is clear coat . It was from 140-170 microns on some parts , so have a lot of meat to play with . But strangely when i checked official data from my laptop Porsche is saying 80/90 -100/110 mikrons . Ok , i decided to wash the car and to put him in garage to see what it is .
So i have founded that the car was a long time ago repainted . I called the owner and started to talk with him about it . He sed nothing . He takes his phone and makes the call . Yelling , screaming on the guy in some shop bla bla bla . When he finished and hanged the phone down he started the story . Btw the Dealership is in Germany where he is purchase the car as new in 1988 . He is their loyal customer for more than a 45 years so he can do the yelling and F. words . Car was paid around 35.000 DEM in that time . It was a LOT of money back then .
Every year two or tree time he drives the car to that service for inspection and maintenance . That one time in 1993 when the car was at service during test drive the lead mechanic crashed the car . So they repaired the car and they never told him about it . In short , if a clear coat have too much " orange peel" you can tell that is repainted , or simply measure how "fat" is clear coat.
Sometime in 1996 he was in Switzerland on some business meetings , he left the car on usual spot and left to hotel. In the morning the car was gone . Stolen . Well what can you do , report to police , head back home , sort things out with insurance , take your money and by by Targa .
Years are passed . One day in 2011 owner receives the call from Interpol Police . Sir , did you ever before been owner of car with this VIN number , color black bla bla bla . OMG after 15 years . Sir we have your car here in Switzerland impounded in a drug bust raid . Bring your documents of ownership and your documents and you can pick up the car .
Man he was so happy , he picked all and left in a hour . Car was later transported to his house and since then never seen daylight . Today this car has a price tag of 90.000 EUR . But this one is not for sale .
Nice story of a car , don't you think ?
So i prepared my tools , all of it

And i taped and protected all rubber parts on car , and after that cleaned clear coat with a clay bar just to pull our remaining particles of metal , brake dust ...

Oh , if you wonder , VW Golf MKI is a original from first production year , slightly less then 10.000 km on counter , also bought as new by current owner . 42 years ago .
Behind Golf is a Fiat Abarth , special model 695 Tributo Ferrari . He got it for free as a gift from Ferrari because he is a first buyer of a Ferrari FF . That car is in another garage with other beasts . About this in some other posts.
So i hope that this post will find a wider audience on Steemit .
Tomorrow or some other day i will post part II with a assessment of paint and actual work .
Thanks
