Summer Streets Workshop

The NYC Department of Transportation’s Summer Street festival is kicking off from tomorrow! 35 street blocks will be closed on Saturdays this month to celebrate car-free summer days. New Yorkers and the visitors will get to enjoy the entire 8 car lanes with full of fun activities and public workshops.

On the 58th street, I will be hosting a design workshop: “Pastel Urbanism: Design Your Own Neighborhood”

8월의 토요일마다 맨해튼의 파크 에베뉴 80개의 블록에서 교통부의 ‘차 없는 여름 거리’ 페스티벌이 시작됩니다. 저는 58 번가 Uptown Rest Stop에서 디자인 워크숍을 하게 되었습니다. ‘파스텔 어바니즘: 나의 동네 디자인하기’ 도시 건물 디자인 놀이를 거리에서 해보려 합니다.

항상 다루는 토픽을 대중과 대화해 보고, 또 새로운 아이디어를 보는 재밌는 워크숍이 될 것입니다 :)

Fabricating a Mini City

My office is located next to a furniture fabrication studio and they dump a hell of a lot of wood scraps that go into the land fill. It’s mostly high quality lumber. I decided to up-cycle them for the workshop!

워크숍은 담당자가 직접 준비해야 합니다. 저희 오피스바로 옆이 가구 공방인데 가끔 보면 좋은 목재가 많이 버려지더라구요. 업사이클 할겸 도시 블럭 재료로 사용했습니다.

• 과연 어떤 도시를 보게 될지....

Now, chalk board paint is applied on the blocks. My workshop visitors will design and draw facade to create a new type of city with colorful chalks. Let’s see what kind of architectural designs we discover from this workshop.

칠판용 페인트를 앞면에 칠해줬습니다. 참여하는 친구들이 분필로 Facade 건물의 앞면을 그리게 될 것입니다. 어떤 상상력과 아이디어를 보게 될지 매우 기대가 되네요 ;)
