History of Photoshop

The American brothers Thomas Knoll and John Knoll developed Photoshop in 1987. They sold the distribution license in 1988 to Adobe Systems.

Photoshop 0.07

This was the first Version of Photoshop a demo version of 'Macintosh platform' & 'Bond' coded. This was the first known copy of Photoshop.
It was released on 5th January, 1988 (Not publicly released). This was type of Floppy disk format.

This was the second Version of Photoshop. Also was a demo version of 'Macintosh platform' & also 'Bond' coded.
It was released on 2nd October, 1988 (Not for distribution). This was type of Floppy disk format.

Photoshop 0.87

This was the third Version of Photoshop. It was the first version of 'Macintosh platform' (code name- Seurat) which was released on 4th March, 1989 & commercially distributed by the scanner company Barneyscan known as "Barneyscan XP".
It wasn't available for Windows until 1992. It was the first image editing software.
This was type of Floppy disk format & only ran on a Macintosh computer.

Adobe Photoshop 1.0

This was the fourth version of Photoshop & It was also the first time the software was released commercially with the brand name 'Adobe Photoshop'. It was released in 19th February, 1990 for' Macintosh' exclusively (code name- Seurat) and was the first time the software made available to the public as a standalone product.
This was type of Floppy disk format & the original source code of this version was donated to the Computer History Museum in February 2013.

Adobe Photoshop 2.0

Initial success of Adobe Photoshop 1.0, Adobe Photoshop 2.0 was released in June 1991 with 'Macintosh', the developers code name was 'Fast Eddy' & was type of Floppy disk format.
At this time new version added with Paths, CMYK color, EPS Rasterization. Those feature added by engineer 'Mark Hamburg' who was newly appointed.
Last released for System 6.0.4.

November 1992- Adobe Photoshop 2.5 was released. It was the first example cross-platform software which released for both 'Mac and Windows'. It was the first version for 'Microsoft Windows' with 16 bit per channel support. 'Merlin' was the developers cod ename for the Mac version & 'Brimstone' was the code name for the Windows version, was type of Floppy disk format & also available as a 'Deluxe' edition on CD-ROM. It was added for 'IRIX, Solaris' version.
Last released for System 6.0.7. On November 1993.

Adobe Photoshop 3.0 was released in September 1994 for mac and November 1994 for Windows, IRIX, Solaris.First release to be distributed in compact disc format & final release to be distributed in floppy disk format.
In this version 'Layers' was added on the features. It was the first version of Photoshop to feature 'Tabbed Palettes'. The developers code name for the 'Macintosh' version was 'Tiger Mountain'.

Adobe Photoshop 4.0 was released in November 1996, with Actions and Adjustment Layers. It was upgraded last version to support Radius and SuperMac NuBus hardware acceleration & to support 68K Macs. It was the first version for Mac and Windows simultaneously.
It also Added Navigator palette, Grids and Guides, Free Transform tool, Multicolor gradients and Gradient Editor, Gallery Effects filters, Digimarc image watermarking with 'PNG & PDF' file format.
The developers code name for this version was 'Big Electric Cat'.
Last released for Windows 3.1x, Windows NT 3.51, System 7.1 and 80486 processors.

Adobe Photoshop 5.0 was released in May 1998 for Mac and Windows simultaneously.
It came with new features adding like Editable type, Multiple Undo (History Palette), Color Management, Magnetic Lasso and Pen, Freeform Pen, Spot Color channels, increased 16 bit/channel support, Channel Mixer adjustment, Layer Effects, Automation plugins, Color Samplers, Measure tool.
'Strange Cargo' was the developers code name.
It was last released for System 7.5.
