The Malaccan Desert

I don't know about you but I've always wanted to walk through a desert. Feel the heat on my skin, sand covering my toes and finally take that perfect insta-worthy picture on a sand dune. Alas, Malaysia was blessed with lush greenery so there are no deserts here however, there are sand dunes. I've always been jealous of my friends taking their pictures in deserts and beaches when the sun sets. Then, I realised they've been taking these pictures in Malaysia! I was astonished and researched mini deserts in Kuala Lumpur. None popped up but one did catch my attention : Pantai Klebang in Malacca.

My friends and I grabbed our stuff, filled our gas tanks and headed to Malacca for an impromptu photoshoot. We parked the cars at the sand dunes carpark and from there, we walked for nearly 1.5 hours until we reached a flat area with sand dunes at every corner. I climbed the sand dunes, set my things at the very top and surfed down using a one of the cardboard boxes we've torn up. At the very top of the sand dunes, I saw the beach below, the city afar, the sea ahead and the desert behind me. And at sunset, it was the perfect lighting for a photoshoot. We had a Mad Max themed photoshoot - taking full advantage of the desert.

At 7:00pm, a truck scouted the entire desert looking for tourists in the area. The man told us to to leave the desert before it gets dark, otherwise we will be stuck out here without light (which was true, there wasn't a lamppost in sight). We left right after he told us to and sure enough, we were stranded in the dark. I remembered passing by huge rocks, some dried up grass and a large hole before ending uo back at the carpark. It took us longer to get back to our cars because this time, we couldn't see where we were going.

Note to self : Leave the desert before 7:00pm.

Malaysia is definitely not a country I would associate with deserts, but that experience sounds awesome, though walking one and a half hours in the sand there and back must have been exhausting

Definitely! Not to mention the weather here is really hot. Need to drink more water to stay hydrated or else you'll get a heat-stroke
