Depression happens when our coping mechanisms are not able to manage the negativity they are subjected to. It is the failure of our coping mechanismsthat lead us to depression or anxiety... That brings us to the question:

What are coping mechanisms? Why are they key in safeguarding us from psychological health issues

You must have heard a lot of people talk about coping mechanisms when it comes to mental health. A lot of people imagine coping skills or mechanisms as compromising ability or ability to keep taking things.

That is a total myth and that is not what coping mechanisms are for.

Coping mechanisms are our mind's ability to keep focusing on the"here and now" that is what is present and needed to be done while managing the disappointments, negative thoughts, people's perception and self's emotions in ways that they never hamper or come in way of the forward looking process.

Coping mechanism like body's immune system fight with all the negativity, ignore it or even silence it just like immunity kills bacteria to help the person keep doing and focusing on the positive best.

Coping mechanisms are so essential for the mind's healthy functioning that we cannot work a day without them being actively present in our lives....

To further clarify with an example, think of coping mechanism to be like your body's Voltage system. If the current or negativity or pain runs too high, it stabilizes it and then passes it over for action so that there is no damage to the current functioning.

How does coping mechanism act in our body ad mind? Well here is the explanation:
When you get negative thoughts, the coping mechanisms receive them for processing. With a healthy coping mechanism that is balanced in its view, it tells your negative thought to go take a back seat! It even tells the negative perception that they are not valid and it stores it somewhere in remote memory or deletes it. Also it reasons with negative emotions and gives objective view. So when someone feels bad and automatically starts crying, your coping mechanism kicks in tells you that you have nothing to cry and that what has happened is usual. It also fetches for you the good things to focus on so that you stop crying... This helps you stop crying and focus on what you really have to do.
