Eggs and Baskets - On the Importance of Multiple Platforms

in #demonetisation6 years ago

I'm not famous. I don't know whether anyone is even reading this. However, I like to future-proof my stuff and start as I mean to go on.

There have been a few instances recently of YouTubers I follow who have been having troubles with their content. Some have had their videos taken down for non-existent hate-speech. Others have had their entire channel taken down without warning for supposedly inciting violence (she now uploads on an older channel of hers). Of course YouTube can do what they like, they're a private company. But if such a case should happen to me, I have signed up for many other sites in the hope that I can build a following there, and not lose everything should one site decide I am a 'danger'.

Many of these sites are still in beta, with varying levels of monetisation options. And none currently have the ability to surpass YouTube or Facebook. But there are still many people there who do not use those other sites and would not find my content anywhere else.

I dislike exclusivity, both as a creator (it's hard to keep track of), and as a consumer (it's inherently unfair), so everything I do will be available on my website, and I shall attempt to make it all available elsewhere, should the platform support the content. In the current moment, I am unable to use the site for selling ebooks, however, that is definitely an option in the future.

So here is a list of all the places you can find me:--
