Where are all the bad people?

in #democracy6 years ago

In my life I have met a lot of people. Many are nice, but some are rather problematic, egoists, drunks, aggressive guys, people that are full of shit, manipulative, greedy, ... . But I would not say that I ever met a truly evil person. Every single one was convinced to to the right thing, at least as seen from their perspective. Most of them are convinced that they are not only not evil, but are actively helping others and making this world better.

Then why is the world such a mess. Massive pollution and radioactive waste handled carelessly. Wars and Terror including child soldiers. People deprived of the most basic rights and forced into slave labour. Poverty and hunger.

The easy answer is that humans might be evil and these are just the natural consequences. But from the people I know nobody, not even the assholes, supports any of this. So the question remains, why is the world in this state?

Politics tells us that humans are evil and there needs to be a force to control them. They are trying their best to keep things together and their actions are without alternatives. But quite the opposite seems to be the case. The current world seems to be in this state because we have authority that rules against the will of the ordinary people.

Somewhere in the system of controll corruption has crept in. An evil person alone cannot cause much harm, but an evil person that claims for some obscure reason the be in charge can turn the entire world into a big mess if we do not oppose.

Politics in not only unable to solve these issues, it is the root of the problem. Politics will never solve pollution, it is used by the polluters to protect them from the consequences. Politics is not the road to peace, it is the source of global tensions.

What we need to do is not try to get different politicians, but change the entire system.

  • limit the ability for corruption (i.e. Blockchain technology)
  • remove human influence (code is law)
  • massively reduce the scale of government
  • decentralise government
  • abolish government altogether

Which way forward is the best is hard to tell, but the current democracies simply do not work. Most decisions are made against the will of the population and that population is already being misinformed to support the interests of a small elite.

Just ask yourself, is it really a democracy if we are fighting a war that most people dont even know about, the media tries to not mention and if told most people reject? Do you get up in the morning wanting to kill people in Yemen? I don't. I never met anyone from there, never had any problems. All I know is that few years ago they found a lot of oil in their country. And now for some strange reason our soldiers are there. No public discourse, no public decision, not a democracy.
