DeepVault, A Deep Onion Innovation, First In The Industry

The Deep Onion developers recently launched their innovation for the coin called DeepVault. DeepVault is the first of its kind in the cryptocurrency industry. In their website, they define DeepVault as “an information store that is held within the blockchain meaning that the data is immutable, forever! More specifically, DeepVault allows Onion members to store file validation credentials (hashes of files) within the blockchain.”

DeepVault only stores hashes of files, not the files themselves. This is an important distinction so that people will not misunderstand the purpose of DeepVault. The source code for DeepVault is not yet released at this time due to concerns of heavy piracy and uncontrolled cloning without giving credit to creators. According to the developers, DeepVault will be closed sourced for now and there are plans to release it in the future but there is no time frame for that. With the increased competition in the cryptocurrency industry, where every coin wants to be unique, there is a trend now to keep some portions of the code proprietary for the meantime.

The method for verifying authenticity of files has been in use for a long time now in the software industry. Cryptographic hash functions are often used for verification. There are stand-alone software that can generate hash files and these hash files can be sent together with the file to be used for verification.

DeepVault brings file authenticity verification to the blockchain for the first time. Any information stored in the blockchain cannot be changed. This will be the advantage of DeepVault. Hash files cannot be tampered with once stored in the blockchain. DeepVault can become a single point of storage for file verification credentials. Any person can send you a file and you can verify its authenticity by checking it in the Deep Onion blockchain. You can verify files anytime and anywhere as long as you have internet access and a Deep Onion wallet. There can be wide ranging use for DeepVault. Hashes of file of legal documents, company sensitive information, private documents, software, are just a few examples that can benefit by the infrastructure of DeepVault. And since DeepVault only stores hashes of files, all files are not touched or stored in the blockchain.

There is a 1 Onion charged for storing a file’s hash information in the Deep Onion blockchain. After that, verification by anyone of the file is free. A file’s authenticity can be verified by anyone or by only a certain group of people. The Onion address of the uploader of the file hash is needed when verifying the authenticity of any file.

Cloud storage brought to us the ease of making offline backup of files. If there is widespread adoption, DeepVault may in the future be the platform for an easy to use and easy to access storage for file authenticity verification. The kind of infrastructure is now badly needed in our online world where hacking incidents are rampant. With DeepVault, we can be confident that the files we get are authentic and untampered with.
