Split-ticketing (aka partial staking) on Decred

in #decred4 years ago

Since the price of Decred tickets have gone up I have lost the ability to purchase a ticket to participate in staking and voting.
I know of the possibility of splitting tickets price between more than one voter since late 2018, but I couldn't find a reliable way to do it.

Lately I came across this post on the Decred: https://docs.decred.org/proof-of-stake/ticket-splitting/
It shows step by step how to set it up, that is the most reliable source, so I won't repeat what is said there, but just to show that it is simple (although not as it should), let me summarize it here:

  • You need Decrediton running (and you probably already do if you own any decred
  • You need to join a Pool which supports Vote Splitting (you can find a list on the tutorial)
  • You need to run one additional piece of software called splitticketbuyer
  • [Optional] You need to join a telegram channel where the public sessions are run (and you can check which is the active session by typing /now@ticketsplitting_bot) (this is actually optional, you can just check which sessions are active here: https://mainnet-split-tickets.matheusd.com/)

And that's it, leave it running until a ticket is purchased and wait for it to be selected for vote.

Basically, the idea behind it is that more voters participate in the purchase of a single ticket. The voting right will go to the biggest contributor for the ticket. By checking the latest session you can get an output like this:

f790a9803030fdd4f6cf14198b277d3a: [11.0 DCR, 37.0 DCR, 10.0 DCR]
Total: 58.0 DCR

which shows you which are current contributions to the next ticket.

you will find a list of the Vote Splitting Pools and the state of the current sessions.
