While news about cryptocurrency exchanges become more irrelevant with time, the focus begins to shift towards the idea of centralized exchanges as a whole: Are these as trustworthy as we think they are?

Let's bring up a couple of arguments:

• Centralized Exchanges remove the libertarian views of freedom from cryptocurrency as they're regulated by the state. Think: Centralized exchanges are more likely to be found and called out by law enforcers for controlling large volumes of money. Now in order to buy cryptocurrencies from most of these exchanges, you have to be logged and verified with the state. All transactions from your account no matter the cryptocurrency are logged. For those wanting the state totally off of their backs: No, you won't be able to evade taxes that easily.
• Centralized Exchanges are really just like any other bank. Not in the aspect of buying currencies and trading them per se, but by maintaining your funds and tracking your moves for the state, it doesn't seem all that free now. They have the ability to freeze your funds and close your account at any time. You don't own the keys so in the event of a hack or company shutdown, your money is gone -- just like that.
• Centralized Exchanges just aren't necessary anymore. While not as archaic as the banking system, centralized exchanges are beginning to become irrelevant in the scene. If we have the middlemen in the process again, what makes it any different than a government-backed cryptocurrency which could be used to control the population fully?
