Debt ceiling confusion.

Good piece discussing how polling on the debt ceiling is all over the place as people don't really understand the issue and aren't following it closely. So question wording and partisan messaging can change the poll results. For example a lot of people incorrectly think the debt ceiling concerns future spending instead of borrowing for past spending. Or they don't understand the implications of not raising the debt limit- a devastating default. I'd also add that routinely people like the idea of spending cuts until you ask them specifically what they would cut.

McCarthy naturally hasn't helped in this regard by referring to the debt limit like raising a credit card limit when it is actually more like not paying your credit card bill.
