RE: Should we invest in space exploration while millions of people die of hunger?

in #debato6 years ago

I think I remembered people mentioned about the possibility of this world being broken by global warming, diseases etc. which kinda force us to contemplate a new place for living. Terraforming another planet so that it can be a suitable habitat for us, humans, would cost billions, even with what have been aimed by Elon Musk to reduce the cost of space travel from 10 billions to 100k USD, it still going to take a lot of times and probably some research (which requires more budget) to create a much efficient, sophisticated and low-cost technology. I have been wondering why don't we spend that money into researching something that could potentially reverse global warming and focus on health care so that diseases can be prevented. True, it is uncertain whether that would provide some kind of positive changes to the environment or how people who were well-nourished can prevent the spread of certain diseases, but so does space exploration. There are millions of possibilities and we do not know which one could potentially wipe us out one day. Everyone is taking a risk and instead of focusing on what could happen, I would be very much concern about our problems at hand and how can we help reduce its complications.
