Affirming the Consequent

in #debating6 years ago

Greetings Stemians! continue with our list of fallacies, today is the turn of the "Affirmation Consequent".

Source/Fuente

Also called converse error, it is a very simple formal fallacy and indicates that if A then B, therefore B then A. It is a fallacy because it ensures that if a cause has an effect, then that cause is the only justification for the effect. In some cases it may be completely logical, but not all of them are valid. A little confusing, right?

For example:

"When people get sick they go to the doctor, so if they went to the doctor it's because that person is sick"

The premise of this statement is true because sick people go to the doctor, but conclude that a person who goes to the doctor is necessarily sick is fallacious because it could be a routine consultation.

Falling into this fallacy is a very common mistake ... Or maybe we do it on purpose?

Have a nice day/night
