Have you seen the Battlestar Galactica spinoff called 'Caprica'?
It explores these themes of post humanism well, placing consciousness inside a mechanical form; simulated to some extent by a Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep 'box'.
Its a very interesting topic, touching on a broad range of disciplines, science, philosophy, psychology, and ethics.
Yeah, shame it was canceled.
