Nation's Largest Burr Oak Tree
We take a little ride out to see the Nation's largest Burr Oak Tree today. Doesn't sound like a big deal to most, but after you see it, this tree is a gnarly old weathered ancestor that shares the title of the nations largest Burr Oak. It's sister tree is in Kentucky and at 90 feet tall, 130 foot spread and a circumference at the base of 287 inches this grandfather of trees is estimated to be 400 years old. It's survived 2 known lightening strikes, and the 1993 flood where it was in 6 feet of flood water as well as numerous droughts and the occasional human vandalism. Today let's take a look at this national monument.

I always fascinated by trees that stands by it's own in the field. Couls be on a hill, apart from other trees or forest.
We have this one tree in Lithuania that marks a half way between my hometown Klaipėda and capital Vilnius. It stands in the middle of two sides of the highway. Always a good reminder that you are on your way to one or another side of the country.

Yep had to hug the tree to show how big it is. It’s cool old tree though and fascinated by the history of a 400 year old tree. In this country, that’s before any European settlement.
