Words are powerful.
Words are massively important in life. How we say the things we say can make all the difference in how we are perceived. I come from a country where our people were persecuted and killed for centuries just for speaking in our native tongue. In a country with a lot of history, tradition and baggage one of our proudest traditions is storytelling. The unfortunate side to this is that it is nearly all done through English bar a few small communities that refuse to bow down. Refuse to fade away and refuse to go down without a fight. We do learn the language in school but realistically only a fraction of people who leave with any solid level of fluency since learning from a book isn't the same as living it. We should be living it, we should be passing our heritage onto the next generation. Storytelling is in the blood. Through songs and through stories we pass on a legacy.
Our country has changed beyond recognition since i was a child and not all for the better. Now a lot of what we thrived on is getting blacklisted. A lot of the songs and stories forbidden as they are not politically correct. Life isn't politically correct and i don't want to be. Not to be hateful but to say it like it is. We spend so much time dancing around the subject and so much time trying not to offend anybody that nothing can be accomplished. Every word that we say and every action we take can be offensive to someone.
Life is offensive. We struggle, we cry, we live through pain and then in the end we die. Then there is finally nobody left to offend and all we have left is our history and legacy. That might sound grim and it's not the whole reality as we have the other side of life too. The friends, the family, the memories and the good times. Everybody will go through both sides of it and hopefully come out on the right side of the scales. That is why words are so important. When i say i will be there or do something, I will. When I tell a person how i feel, I will mean it. Good or bad.
We might speak English in my country but it is far from the Queens English. We have developed our own language and words that can be interpreted in a lot of ways. It can be quiet confusing for anybody that doesn't understand the system. Just for example my home town. If I am sitting at the bar and getting some slagging or abuse then i know i'm home. It's because we feel comfortable enough in each others company to give and take it. We know there is no harm behind the words. While anybody listening might take offence, at home it is a form of acceptance.
If i was there with everybody being polite and nice to me it would be time to get worried. Obviously they are being very careful around me as they don't like or trust me.
Strange no?
The words we hear every day shape who we are and what we do. A lot of the world hangs on the words that we are fed every day by large corporations and news agencies. This is a dangerous protocol to adhere to. Every one of them has their own agenda and it is rarely just to pass on unbiased information so that we can make informed decisions on our own behalf. Nowadays we are fed thoughts and beliefs and if anybody chooses to take a different view from the masses then they are castigated by the public led by social media campaigns. On Steemit we have seen a certain level of censorship and campaigning but not to the same extend as mainstream media. Hopefully we can build a community that allows us to have opinions and freedom of speech. A community that accepts that we all have different though and that they are not automatically wrong because they are different to your own.
We will see. Words are weapons if used the wrong way but they can also be the driving force of change. If enough people believe in a vision then surely they can bring it to reality. We talk about communities and an age of abundance but for now we just talk. The defining moment will be when we are living what we preach.

Excellent post @niallon11.
You summed it up nicely with this below....
Unfortunately, we have a Leader in our Country (USA) who uses words to demonize groups of people who may look and act just a little different. And it's definitely words of "weapons" and is just sickening
Good to see you over this side of steemit and i'm glad that you liked the post. We do hear quite a lot about that leader of yours over here too. He makes the news fairly often and he owns a golf course near my home town that i used to work in.
I can appreciate people who have convictions and are willing to back them even against popular opinion but that is not what he is doing. He is targeting certain groups with the intention of grounding them down. He doesn't stand for something, he is playing to the crowd.
LOL! The Irish and scots speak a brand of English that feels like it’s a different language! But in South Africa it’s the same if you’re not insulting one another and using vulgar language your probably feeling down or not yourself! It’s colourful and expressive and part of the culture I love it!
Also how is dclick working out for you you?

Ya, the scots are very close to ourselves in language and history. They are also great fun to meet up with. I'm sure that South Africa has the same views towards history and culture as we do since there would be a lot of similarities to ourselves.
This is the first time that i've used dclick for posting so i'll get back to you on it. It was more an experiment than anything so i'm curious to see if it works. I'm not expecting anything from it yet really as there won't be much behind it or many clicks from my work but if the site progresses in the future and we have companies putting advertising money into it then I can see it becoming a lot more profitable. Don't be shy to click the link and find out.
