Daylight Saving Time
Finland observes daylight saving time. Clocks were turned one hour forward last night. I'd prefer if the whole year were in summer time (GMT+3). The effects of daylight saving time on traffic safety have been studied in many countries. This article by Liikenneturva (in Finnish) discusses the effects of time on traffic safety. The conclusion was that, for traffic safety, afternoons and evenings are much more important than mornings.
In the old days I think it helped farmers before they had lights for their tractors. I think part of it was for kids walking to school. I remember being six years old and walking blocks and blocks!
You're probably right.
What I don't understand is why different countries observe different switching dates. It gets confusing. All this timey-wimey uncertainty has me feeling a bit ill I think... !sneeze
I think that's because the time switching is done to maximize daylight at optimal hours and those are heavily dependent on not only the latitude but the longitude as well.
