What is Datum?
Datum is a blockchain-based platform that’ll ultimately allow users to retake control of their data. This idea goes beyond personal and habitual information and also covers Internet data that users can control but currently don’t.
Datum is creating a global data exchange by turning data into tradeable commodities. Powered by Ethereum, BigchainDB and IPFS.
Data from users are collected automatically and (quietly) by large corporations like Facebook and Apple which are then used to form its advertising channels and sold for large amounts of money.
Google will generate over $70 billion this year in revenue from advertising alone while Facebook trails behind with roughly $35 billion from its Facebook Ads platform.
Like every internet user, the things you use every day like Facebook and Google are free which is always great.
All of the data is also shared and analyzed by businesses to be used in the future which extends the situation.
Users should remember that data is valuable and it is always yours. When you use these services, you no longer own the rights to your own data.
token Datum
The DAT token is the currency of the Datum ecosystem. Users can use DAT tokens to pay a small fee to securely store their data on the network. Miners are then responsible for saving and transmitting that data receive DAT tokens as a reward. Buyers can then use DAT tokens to purchase data from the network. The token sale begins on October 29th and 1.53 billion DAT tokens will be available for sale at a rate of 10,000 DAT per Ether. There will be 3 billion DAT total and no more will be created in future. This represents the first opportunity for users to get in on the monetization of their own personal data which businesses have been making money off of for years
The Datum pre-sale is taking spot all through August, with an ICO planned to begin on September 12. The project is being produced by a team in Switzerland, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
The Datum Solution
The new platform is designed to be easy for users to understand:
.The user first submits their data on to the decentralized platform, there will be a small gas fee to process.
.A storage node will receive the data and it will be replicated on to other nodes to make it safe.
.A consumer shows interest in buying the data.
.The user receives an offer for the purchase of their data, the details of the buyer will be displayed. The user then has the option of accepting, rejecting or making a counter offer.
.If the user accepts the offer then they'll receive DAT tokens, the decryption key will then be sent to the buyer.
