10 Things Not To Do On Your First Date

Going on a date for the first time can be an exciting, yet frightful experience. There are so many unknowns that you will need to discover, like are you going to like your date and is she going to like you back. Is she well mannered, or boorish and boisterous and is she going to find you animated and funny. Are you scared of showing off your wealth when you don’t mean to? But I think if you’re meeting a girl for the first time the key is to be yourself, which can prove a daunting task to most men. And although the first ten minutes into the date will give you early signals if you’re on the right track, many get over confident, get carried away and end up making horrible mistakes. Nevertheless, there are a few things you need to avoid doing on your first date. And to help you create that powerful first impression, that can shape the path a future relationship is to take, here are some ten things not to do on your first date:

1. Don’t Go When Drunk or High
   Getting drunk or high to bolster your courage for the meek in order to impress your date could just end up messing the occasion. You need to have a sharp mind to gauge your date’s sensibilities and reactions. And by taking that first drink, you just shield your insecurities and that edge may disappear altogether. You need a sober mind to charm your date with wit and laughter and not an incoherent tirade and harangue. Getting high on substances could also create a false illusion about your self worth, which at best, may give you a temporary hit, and at worst only to disappear when you hit down.
2. Don’t Eat Garlic
   Be careful the foodstuffs you imbibe before meeting your date and especially don’t eat garlic. It lets out a powerful stench that can unwittingly repulse your date. You wish for a fresh sweet breath now that you’re braced to be the conqueror, you need to do lots of talking and this is not going to be helped by a stinky breath. Remember you may get lucky to get kissed as you part.
3. Don’t Laugh too Loud
   Letting out laughter the size of a howling wolf is fine when drinking beer with the mates at your local pub. But be careful not to frighten off your date with your perceived hilarious nature. Laughing at every joke you make not only portrays you as an uncultured lowlife, but also a fake comedian.
4. Don’t Tell Her Your Politics or Your Bank Balance
   However principled you are in you convictions and politics, introducing them at the dating table will just blow in an icy wind. It’s plain bad etiquette telling her that you’re a fan of Donald Trump and a Republican to boot, when she could be leaning toward feminine and scandal-free Hillary Clinton. Again refrain announcing how much you earn in a year and what your current bank balance is.
5. Let Her Order First, then Follow Suit and Pay the Bill
   Letting her order her favorite dish first will give you early signals of her future food preferences should you ultimately face the altar together. But in your nervous clumsy nature, you are likely to order horrendous foods like spaghetti with boiled eggs. After eating, show chivalry by picking the bill and when you pay, don’t tip the waiter too generously. She may think you’re summoning the power of money to win her favor.
6. Don’t Smoke
   If you smoke and find it a challenge quitting, try to refrain for the duration of the date.
   But if she also smokes, then avoid blowing smoke directly to her face. She may not complain but will intuitively judge you to be insensitive, domineering and rude, which may diminish your prospects for a future date.
   If she does not smoke and would like to end the date with a kiss, she may find your tobacco reeking mouth disgusting.
7. Don’t Pick Your Nose, Belch or Fart Loudly
   For heaven’s sake be decent and reasonable. Picking your nose repeatedly, belching and farting loudly are absolute NO NO NOs in your first date. But because this blog focuses on men’s behavior, we shall leave out how to treat ladies who behave this way. Either way, it’s simply gross, but the point is, it’s hardly the time or place to demonstrate how comfortable you feel with your body. It’s time for your best behavior that will shape your destiny together in years to come.
8. Don’t Get Glued to Your Phone
   It’s great if you run a Fortune 500 company where callers bombard you like hail stones or one of Hollywood’s hottest celebs. But dating etiquette does not respect either. Avoid getting into lengthy conversations, email exchanges or any other attractions modern day smartphones deliver. This will not only paint you as insensitive, arrogant and mean, but may jeopardize chances of landing another date.
9. Respect Diners Next Table
   Remember you are not dining alone with your date. There could be other couples enjoying their meals as well. Some could be chatting excitedly; others could be arguing and shouting at each other. Don’t get drawn into their brawls and throw in your own unsolicited advice.
10. Don’t Discuss Plastic Surgery, Breast Enhancements and Butt Implants
    Avoid showing off how much you know about plastic surgery. You could be implying that your date needs one. Avoid ogling at her breasts. And absolutely do not discuss buttock enhancement surgery as dessert is getting served. You could be telling her you’re uncomfortable with her small derrière and would wish her to pack in more fat.
    The smart man is cool, well composed and polite. Encouraging your date to talk more about herself is a big plus. It’s only after sensing her perspective on matters related to relationships when you can devise a path to meet her halfway. And this is the only way to build a relationship based on respect, love and mutual understanding.
