Google's Fusion Tables is shutting down, what is next?

in #datavisualization6 years ago

Fusion tables is a platform for researchers and data science to help visualize their datasets. Google published that their web-based service is shutting down in December next year.
Starting under the name of Google Labs in 2009 as a research project it quickly shifted towards being an experimental tool for data visualization.

Users could merge large data sets together from multiple sources with each containing multiple thousands of rows and chart them visually with maps, graphs or custom layouts.
Similarly, as with other Google services, users can collaborate with each other by sharing the content while the API functionality allowed more entree to the data.

A list of alternative products was mentioned by Google such as they want to "focus their efforts on other existing products"
Google stated that they are planning on opening other internal data viz tools to the public as a separate tool or as an option in existing tools such as Google sheets, Data Studio, Cloud SQL or BigQuery.
