Remember the date 16th January 2018 - Sn0wmageddon

In the UK we are known worldwide for our quaint little British traits, Fish 'n' Chips, Mug 'o' Tea - what is less known is as a country the easiest way to bring it to complete standstill is to spread a little slushy snow on the roads. Throughout the day we had bouts of snow but it quickly melted off the roads and paths. However come 4.45pm a new fall of heavy snow coincided with a drop in temperatures and the end of the working day....Snow on roads + many cars trying to head home with little to no experience driving on slippy roads = GRIDLOCK. At 6pm when I was going to leave work looking out every road I could see was solid with cars - that were going nowhere. So I made the sensible decision to go back into work, stay late and be productive and of course make a tasty coffee.

By 8pm the worst of the traffic seemed to clear - so I decided to brave it and head out. Quickly it became obvious there were still problems, plenty of standing traffic on my usual route home - so I decided to try my luck using the route I normally take into work - although it was a brave (stupid) idea as that road reaches the highest altitude for these parts so the snow would be worse. I don't get too far that way before hitting a very long snake up the road of car brake lights - and they are not moving anywhere (I found out later much further up a car had flipped onto it's roof blocking the road completely) so time for a U turn and head back the normal not moving much route.

It's slow stop start traffic, although I am behind a Tesla Model X - quite an impressive looking beast from behind. I do like these but they are quite expensive, plus they are unable to fulfil orders because of battery issues - worst thing though is the range between recharges - quite limiting even in the tiny British Isles. It also reminds me the shares I bought in Tesla are still lower then I bought at - I keep hoping they will climb again. For now though the minutes keep ticking by , we don't move much and I have to stare at the ample butt of a car I can't afford, the manufacturer is struggling to make enough of and my shares in the manufacturer are down.

Finally a bit of movement, with the traffic moving I decide not to drop off my Hermes parcel at the petrol station - they can wait for tomorrow.

Finally a clean break, maybe I will get home at a half decent time...and then all of a sudden another queue - and this one does not move at all. Sitting stationary it's time to reflect, with very little traffic coming down what lies ahead must be a big blockage. Should I park up and walk the rest of the way. Or turn around and try following the lower A58 and head up from a different direction. In the end I just wait, and wait, and wait - eventually we move a bit.

The dash cam ran out of storage at this point, I had some footage from a number of days still on it. The blockage was simple, rather then travel onto the side rounds to their homes many people had parked at the side of the road - either side narrowing it so traffic could only pass in one direction. Once clear of that blockage it was clear driving all the way home.

5 Miles. One and a Half Hours, and I left at 8pm to try and miss the traffic! What a day, and worse still it took up the precious little time I have on an evening for steemit - tragic!

If you feel stuck take a look at the posts in hot and trending for inspiration - but remember Steemit rewards unique content so add your own unique experiences to your posts.
