The Genesis egg distribution is over!

10K Genesis eggs have been successfully distributed!

It took a bit longer than we anticipated, but generally it went more or less as planned.

In this post we will briefly outline some of the most important issues Dragonereum players encountered during the Genesis and what the development team did to solve them.

The first and main issue was related to the node overload. During the times of high players’ activity our node wasn’t able to respond as quickly as necessary, drown in a large number of requests. In order to provide a smoother game experience to our players we scaled our own nodes and used several third-party solutions.

Secondly, we did not think that bots would have such a high impact on the distribution: we were aware of the fact that the bot would have advantage over a regular player due to direct interaction with the blockchain, therefore receiving and sending transactions much faster than a regular player. However, at some point (we assume that several bots were competing at that time) it was almost impossible for a regular player to get an egg. Nevertheless, proposed model of a gas auction worked out and once a bot owner spent available Eth, the bot stopped claiming eggs thus lowering the competition and allowing regular players to put their hands on some eggs.

Additionally, client-side rendering used in our game was slowing down web browsers, especially on budget PCs. This is one of the drawbacks of true decentralization. We have partially mitigated it by adding the option of adjusting quality of dragon’s animations in the User Profile. This allows to make the rendering process less resource-demanding and a game experience equally smooth for everyone. As a radical solution, users are given an option to turn off dragon’s animations completely and play with static images.

So, what are the results of Genesis?

At the moment of writing there are 299 addresses with dragon eggs, which hold a total of 8149 eggs. Also there are 340 addresses of dragon masters who have 2169 dragons combined.

All data is available on Etherscan so everyone is welcome to dig into details.

We will be happy to publish the extended report if our community do some data analysis and share the results with us.
