Dungeons & Politely Convincing Someone to Give Up Their Soul

Kuth and Shylok shortly after murdering a lot of dudes

Exciting times in the land of Dungeons & Dragons. We had a new player join us this week since it appears that our Cleric (and former group leader) is no longer able to join us. Our new player decided to roll as a Druid and I honestly have no idea what his characters name is but I called him Lyle all session and he seemed to respond so I'm just going to assume that his name is Lyle from now on.

So our party now consists of:
Kuth, a 12 year old warlock with a demon trapped inside of him (me)
Shylok, a 100 year old Half-Elf Bard who acts like he is ancient even though he should be in his prime.
Gregor, a middle aged Barbarian who seems happy as long as he can hit things.
Namfoodle, a mechanically gifted Gnome Fighter who hates to be called Foo.
Lyle, some stupid Druid thing.

Our session started with our group needing to recruit some Druid who could help us travel to where we abandoned our damaged Aether ship. Lyle was reluctant to join since he knew the extremely poor reputation of our group combined with the lackluster attempt we made at persuading him to join. I think it's possible he joined just to get us to stop trying to convince him to join us, classic Lyle.

Once we had recruited Lyle he transported us back to the Brotherhood fortress that had recently been overrun by mysterious shadow people intent of killing anything they see. We battled our way through the shadow people back to where we had abandoned our ship. Namfoodle began repairing the ship while I protected him and Gregor, Lyle and Shylok went to gather the parts we needed.

I did my best, constantly engaged with three or more enemies, but I failed horribly at protecting Namfoodle. The pathetic Fighter couldn't handle killing one shadow dude while over the course of the battle I managed to kill 16 of them as a Warlock without using any spells. WORST FIGHTER EVER.

So now our party was in a bit of a conundrum. Namfoodle the mechanic who we needed to fix the boat to fly to the continent where we needed him to fix an ancient weapon was now dead. Super dead from one measly shadow dude, did I mention WORST FIGHTER EVER yet? But this was also where things got interesting. Way back at the start of our campaign Shylok, everyones favorite Bard, had received a cursed sword. Due to some luck Shylok had obtained some Gauntlets of Ogre Strength which allowed him to wield the cursed sword. Shylok then discovered that anything he killed with the sword had it's soul absorbed into the sword. I think you know here this is going by now. Shylok absorbs Namfoodle into his sword.

We then learn that it is possible to trade a willing soul for a soul inside of the sword. After a lengthy discussion I somehow manage to convince both Shylok and Lyle that they should each give up half of their souls to try and bring Namfoodle back to life. There were other options that didn't involve anyone giving up their souls but I did very much enjoy convincing a total stranger to give up half his soul for some dude he just met.

Overall it was a very fun night of D&D and I got to kill a lot of dudes.

love,
