Dungeons & Low Visibility

So we reluctantly had our new party member in tow and after sorting out some gender issues, were heading up the mountain. AS we walked up the mountain we encountered a fork in the road. On our left was a narrow treacherous path leading dangerously around a cliff face. On our right was a wide well maintained path. We guessed that the left would get us to our destination quicker but the right looked much safer and easier to travel. We opted to take a group vote and almost unanimously agreed on a direction, shockingly the only player to disagree was our newest party member Babylon the annoying Changling. Babylon wanted to take the path on the left while everyone else wanted the path on the right.

Since we didn't much value Babylon's opinion, we quickly headed down the safe, easy wide path on the right. The easy terrain made travel easy. We were making great time until the weather began to change and we found ourselves in a blizzard. Visibility was low but we could still travel at a decent pace along the wide path. It didn't take long before we had almost zero visibility. We were forced to stay close together and move at a slower pace.

Suddenly from somewhere within the blizzard we were under attack. Our assailant cast some sort of spell freezing our group in place and then began slipping in and out of the blizzard striking unanswered blows. As we tried to engage the enemy we failed repeatedly and could do nothing more than free ourselves from the ice. No matter what we did we couldn't even get an attack in on the enemy. We prepared actions and set traps but our foe seemed to just magically avoid every plan we made.

It became clear to us that our dungeon master was being a dick.

In response we formed up as a group and run away flailing our arms and weapons spasticly around us as we moved. Our thinking was, yes you can be a dick but we don't have to do what you want us to do. Fight unreasonable actions with more unreasonable actions. As soon as we began moving the blizzard died away and we were safe.

After the battle our DM informed us that he had wanted us to form up in a specific formation and all simultaneously prepare attacks on our enemy, stating that we would have always had at least two attacks against the enemy. For most of the battle people were either, doing something similar to his suggestion and repeatedly failing or attempting to free themselves or others from the ice. Since visibility was so limited the only way you could have ever had an attack was if the enemy appeared directly beside you. And every single time I or anyone else attempted this the enemy would magically just appear and attack from a location we couldn't react from. When you can't even play the game it takes the fun out of the game.

While we all survived the encounter, we left a little bit perturbed and that may have influenced what happened next...

"Seems easy? It's a trap!" Lol.

It's always a trap!
