Exercise is a fast dwindling trait, with most of us being caged by smartphones and sitting all day in the office we hardly get any exercise.

Don’t worry I won’t vomit the benefits of exercise, the world is already doing it every day but what if we take a different perspective to doing things? Like dancing? As painful it might seem, I am a horrible dancer.

But what about others?

Dancing involves the same flexing and movement of muscles, perhaps even more in a short period of time. The benefits range from far from physical, dancing improves morale and mental health as well.

There are five components to a healthy body, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscular endurance, body composition and muscular strength. While an activity like running or lifting weights may target just one of the components dancing can help target multiple components at once!

More importantly, it’s fun.

While exercising can be tedious and tiring dancing never is. Mind says “you are dancing” but your body knows that exercising and dancing are parted by a thin line. And you don’t need to be dancing alone like a maniac, dancing is a social currency and a very beautiful one as well.

As an outsider in a crowd dancing is one of the best ways to introduce yourself to your new friends. And working out in a class can help to up the difficulty level and increase accountability.

Anybody can dance.

Unlike exercising you don’t need to be physically fit to do it. Shy?? Start with your living room and a pair of headphones. It doesn’t put excess pressure on your body like exercise does and it actually contributes to your mental health and brain. It’s not repetitive so you will never get bored. Dancing is more simple and free, allowing you to set your own tempo and rest when your body needs a break.

Losing your feet on a regular basis is linked with a 76 percent reduction in dementia risk – same as much as playing board games or any musical instrument.

Your daily chores and other physical activities, such as bicycling, walking and doing housework, weren't associated with any decreased risk. Dance not only instills grace, but it also helps you age gracefully. It reduces stress, so if you are over-saturated all the time it might be a great idea to play some music and dance your heart out.

A research review found that dancing, as well as carrying objects while walking, can help to improve balance and ultimately reduce dangerous falls. Even the shy elderly can put a music at home and have a little fun for themselves.

Dancing requires nothing but your legs and if you are me, a pair of headphones and a room without a mirror. Just get your songs on and DANCE!!!!!!!

Just to add, dancing is fun and sets up your brain for multi-skilled. More muscles are involved when dancing compared to most exercises. Thanks for the eye opener.
