The Ontario Arts Council produced a video to promote dance, entitled "Why I Dance". You can view it at the bottom of this article. All those who have already taken the first step in this world will recognize themselves in the speakers and the others will perhaps be even more encouraged to enter! Dancing is an activity that brings the sun to morale. The next time you put on your dance shoes, think of all the good you do to your mind. Here are 5 scientific explanations for the well-being that dance brings.

1. Production of endorphins

When the body begins to move, the brain releases endorphins (chemical molecules of pleasure) in response to the increase in activity, as with any sporting practice. Have you ever noticed that sitting at a desk causes boredom and anxiety? The body needs physical activity and the pleasure associated with it. Dance is a great way to stimulate the body and the brain by following the rhythm of music to get the production of these endorphins.

2. Increased self-esteem

Dancing helps to have more self-confidence. When one dances, one loses one's inhibitions and acquires confidence in one's body and movements. We think less of ourselves, we are freed from our self-criticism through our involvement in rhythm and music. Just like theater, dance makes it possible to acquire ease in public and to love each other more. One learns to interact with the other and to be under the gaze of an audience. The complexes diminish and our relationship with others improves.

3. Antidepressant effect

I wrote an article on it yesterday
It has been proven that many forms of physical exercise help to combat depression. This also applies to dance. When one dances long, the body adapts and gradually transforms a depressive state into a more relaxed and positive state. Do you know this feeling of well-being after a long dance? This famous "positive fatigue"? The more dancing, the stronger the impression.

4. Getting to know each other better

Dance can be a gateway to better understand and know who we are. Moving one's body and engaging one's mind in footsteps and music reinforce all the senses: one develops a sensitivity both physical and emotional that remains even outside the dance floor.

5. Creativity

Like painting, writing and playing an instrument, dance is an art (an art of the show). It uses our creativity and develops our way of expressing ourselves. Moving along a rhythm and music triggers all sorts of inspirations that can apply to other areas of life.
