Odissi Dance - Indian Classical Dance
Odissi is a major Indian classical dance. It originated in the eastern coastal state of Orissa, now Odhisa. It is believed to be first performed around 500 B.C in the ancient Hindu temples. It is performed primarily by women. The makeup before the dance itself takes over 2-3 hours. It requires a lot of energy and years of practice to become a good Odissi dancer.
There are different mudras that dancer needs to practice and master. 555 Odissi dancers performed in Bhuvaneshwar, India in December 2011 and created Guinness world record for largest congregation of Odissi dancers in a single event.
