Dhalo Dance
Dhalo is a popular form of Goa ritual folk dance in India. The dance is practiced by women and serves as a prayer of protection for their families. The songs in which the dance is performed are usually sung in Konakni or Marathi. The themes of these songs are usually religious or social in nature. It takes place over a period of one week in the month of Pousha at the beginning of winter. On the last day, the women disguise themselves and draw caricatures of men.
Dhalo was chosen to be presented at the New Delhi folk dance festival.
