How come Black cats can have white hairs on their chest but White cats don't have black on theirs? Question Congress should take up to earn their pay-checks.

Amazing variety but Betty only has a few white hairs. Didn't see that mentioned.

It depends on how the colour cells migrate to cover the white but most of the time, the chest and belly seem to be the last places that they reach, or not, which is why you get anything from a few white hairs to a full blaze. Mostly, colour cells travel away from the spine towards the extremities in the embryo although of course you get the exceptions: skunk striping and the piebald gene which causes random spotting

Thanks for the article @nikv; very interesting to see all the different types of pigment development. One (not related related to these) that has long fascinated me is the Chimera (or "two faced") marking.

=^..^=

Chimeras are particularly interesting because genetically they are merged twins https://geekologie.com/2012/08/pretty-kitty-chimera-cat-is-its-own-frat.php

Great Site, I bookmarked that one. Way too much to read right now. =^,,^=

Interesting, now that you mention it.

Curator Cat (Shadow) has a white cluster of hairs on his and another on his belly. Bebe is white, but has a few black "polka dots" on her back.

@nikv sent me this ...

There is an explanation: http://messybeast.com/bicolours.htm
