TOPIC:
Liberated to Liberate Others

BIBLE READING:
Leviticus 25: 1-22

Qs. 4. See Questions HERE.

DISCUSSION:

This passage reflects an important truth that Christians should not forget, namely, that God takes care of our tomorrow. In order to help his people preserve the health of the soil for future produce, God instructed them to allow pasture land to fallow for one year after every six years of cultivation. He had earlier (Gen 2: 2,3) instituted a seventh day rest for six days of work - the Sabbath. By the same token, he wants those who have been under enormous pressures for a considerable period of time to have relief from their burden every fifth year.

The jubilee year also had some role in redistributing wealth and property, and trying to reduce the inequalities between the rich and the poor, which often persist for generations (vs. 10,13). God's people are to defeat exploitation of each other (v. 17). All these point to one major fact: none of us owns this earth. We are all but aliens here (v. 23; compare Hebrews 11: 13-16) and neither is it our permanent home.

So what?

God remains the Jehovah Jireh, our provider. Will u obey Him and entrust your life wholly into His hands?

Prayer:

Remind me, dear Lord, that this world is not my own so I may live each day in anticipation of my heavenly home.
