How And Why We Deny Jesus

DISCUSSION:
Peter seemed unprepared for what he was seeing at the trial of Jesus. This made his faith to buckle and he, of all the disciples, denied Jesus, his Master (vs. 16-17)! No wonder, when he recovered himself, he wept bitterly (Luke 22:62). Look at the passage again. What would you say made Peter to deny Jesus?
Some of us may say, 'but Peter was warned' (John 13:36-38). Yes, but how many times were we also able to withstand pressures to deny Jesus in spite of several warnings that we have in the Scripture? When there are divisions in your congregation, do you take side with the truth or the powerful? If you were in Nigeria and were cornered by Boko Haram or any Islamic Jihadist, would you openly declare your faith in Christ? Do we pay bribes on the road to police officers to escape being fined or give money to managers to get employed? Any time we try to hide our Christian identity, for what ever reason, we also, like Peter, are denying our Lord.
Meditation:
Reflect on how you have denied Jesus or put His name to shame in the past.
Prayer:
Ask for forgiveness and pray for strength to live for Jesus today and always.
