There is really no place like home. Truth to be told, I experienced it myself. I’ve been to Frankfurt, Germany for a business trip for about 2 weeks early this month. And for that short run, I already miss the Philippines so badly especially if we’re talking about food. Though, Germany is a great place and all but their food just really doesn’t suit my diehard Filipino taste buds. You know German traditional breakfast includes bread, toast, and/or rolls, marmalade, honey, eggs, cold meats (such as ham and salami) various cheeses, leafy vegetables, all washed down with a strong cup or pot of tea or coffee.

I was surprised to withstand having no rice to any meals during my entire stay there.

So upon arriving here in Mactan, the cravings of eating Filipino cuisine dominated my whole system and knowing craving, you won’t be satisfied if you don’t get one.

In order to satiate my appetition, I invited my foodie steemian friends @adeline24, @gindfriend20ph along with her charming son and @rubyflores over dinner at the well known Filipino restaurant which serves a wide variety of food here in Mactan – The Fiesta Bay Asian Seafood Restaurant.

The place is commendable for couple’s date or even for a big group of food lovers. The ambience is unmistakably classy and yet the color combination painted near its counter is so festive that will surely cheer up ones mood.

Aside from the fact that all their staff was so friendly and very accommodating, they have a great selection of precisely delicious dishes while indulging the sea breeze of the island.

With impeccable honesty, I want to order the complete variety of dishes available just to satisfy my appetite but I know with just a bit of my favorites, I’ll be happy and get indulged.

I must say that we are really good friends mainly because we craved the same food, laughed the same jokes and talked the same matter.

Bulalo is a Filipino stew made from beef shanks and beef marrow bones. It is a soup that is made rich by cooking for hours until much collagen and fat has melted into clear broth. It’s very delicious with a mix of corn, Chinese cabbage and other species add the flavor. Perfect even in warmer weather.

The star of the table: Crispy Pata. It is made of whole pork leg boiled under tender and then deep-fried until golden and crisp - crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. This particular Filipino delicacy is sinfully delicious. And it is best eaten as a main dish along with pickled papaya and a dipping sauce made from soy sauce, vinegar, brown sugar and chopped of unions including calamansi juice to add an acid taste.

Pancit canton is equally a great tasting Filipino noodle dish. It is often served during birthdays and other special occasions to symbolized “long life” as they commonly say. Aside from its symbolism, it is perfectly pleasant to taste and looks very festive as well. Sliced pork, sausage and shrimp with different kinds of vegetables make it exciting to taste.

Grilled Pork Belly is a popular mouth-watering grilled dish not only in the Philippines but definitely around the world. Marinated then grilled until done. I think not just me but most people cannot resist the taste of grilled dishes.

To complete the selection, here comes the “Seafood Fiesta set”. - A perfect combination of baked scallops, shrimps, squid and tuna belly. It’s fresh and precisely tasty at a very affordable price. Sometimes eating healthy can be bland and boring but with seafood you have so much flavor that is being healthy is just a big plus!

Citrica juice is the best drink to complement our entire food intake and will surely keep us well hydrated and flush all the harmful toxins out of our system. Juicing apples and cucumbers is one of the best ways to absorb all of the amazing things these foods offer in a delicious drink that we always love.

Speaking of delicious and purely Filipino dishes, there’s no place like FIESTA BAY ASIAN SEAFOOD RESTAURANT, located along Punta Engaño road in Mactan island. Just across the Movenpick hotel in case you will be lost.

Have a great weekend ahead...
